About

Originally established as a playgroup in 1973, Chapeltown Community Nursery is now privately run by a voluntary management committee of parents and ex users of the service. We commissioned our own building in 1993 and we are a registered Charity.

Events throughout the year!

All throughout the year we celebrate both cultural and seasonal events through food, drama, activities and trips. Each summer our highlight is a trip in the Seaside Coach to the East Coast. Diwali is honoured by a play performed by the children. Carnival sees new costumes every year and Christmas boasts the best Nursery Christmas dinner in Leeds!

Our Staff

All our nursery workers hold a recognised childcare qualification. We have a staff team with a diverse cultural mix.

We dedicate 4 days per year for staff training and will give you advance notice of any closures that are needed for training.

Your child will be allocated a key person who is responsible for encouraging and monitoring your child’s progress. We will compile a profile of your child’s development and achievements which will be shared with you.

The Outdoor Area

The nursery has a spacious, enclosed outdoor area which has grass and safety surfacing. Children have access to a large range of toys and equipment to develop their physical skills and co-ordination. Within the outdoor area children can play in the mud kitchen, observe nature in the butterfly garden and watch the seeds they’ve planted growing into vegetables.

We also have a smaller “sensory” garden, where children can indulge their curiosity in an environment that stimulates their senses.

The Management Committee

Our management committee is made up of parents, ex-parents and interested community members. It meets once a month to discuss nursery matters and business.

The committee elects new members at its AGM though individuals can be co-opted at any point during the year. Minutes fo each meeting are made available for all nursery parents to read. Our organisation began in 1973 and we value the contribution of those that made it all possible and those that have worked to develop it and keep it going.

The Management Meetings are held on every third wednesday of the month 5.30pm - 6.30pm
